Welcome to SANDYLAND!!

BOOBIES

(A little political rant for the day.)

Hot Topic, y’all:

ARE WE SEEING TOO MANY BREASTS ON TELEVISION & FILM?

This is a topic that I am constantly fuming about. It pisses me off daily that women are constantly naked in tv shows and movies. I don’t think my partner needs to be exposed to other womens’ breasts and I find it unjust that women RARELY see a man in all his naked glory (thank you Jason Segal for introducing us to your penis in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall!!”). It’s not very often that I can turn on a tv show and NOT see a woman’s breast or ass (even in non-cable shows), *sigh* or worse….have to sit through another movie watching some bimbo bounce all over the lead man completely naked. First of all, who are these women?  Why can’t these “actresses” rely on talent to get their paychecks? And second, do these writers think that women enjoy watching other women flaunt their junk? I don’t. Yes, I may sound a bit prudish, and I’m fine with that. I have two “step-daughters” and I hate that I have to constantly monitor what my partner and I watch for the sake of the girls – should their little eyes happen to wander. I don’t remember seeing so much skin growing up in the 80’s and 90’s. I used to be able to sit down with my family and watch a movie and my parents not have to worry about how much T&A or vag we’d be seeing. I miss the days of family tv. I mean, how long before we go from watching a thong-bearing ass in our nightly television before we see full-on nudity in our evening dramas? It’s enough!!

And I agree, wholeheartedly, that it would seem only fair that they objectify gender for gender (such is the argument I bring up to my hunny frequently) but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen very soon.
And what about the violence against women. It’s disturbing, disgusting and unneccessary. And don’t even get me started on the whole epidemic of women objectifying themselves in music videos these days (Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna, Gaga: I’m talking to you!!). Until women start standing up and refusing to take off their clothes to be a so-called “artist” then nothing will change.

Thoughts?

Gawd Sandy, you are such a prude… ;P

I think the objectifying and the smut and the pop stars are tedious and give it all a bad vibe, but having people see the human body? Someone making love? (as opposed to porn on prime time) Why shouldn’t a girl see what a woman looks like? She’ll have those parts someday too… And I am sure your BF has seen it all before! (sorry!)

So yeah, IMHO we are not seeing too many breasts on tv – we are seeing them in all the wrong contexts, instead. And I think part of the reason for the smut is thae big taboo we have made of it all. If it was “out in the open” as it were it would not be such a big deal and boys wouldn’t be panting over every glimpse!

    Hope I didn’t start a big fight. 😛

Sandy, This is so simple. Sex sells. We know this. And it’s all about the money. So, don’t watch tv. If it bothers you that much. Rent a “family” movie. We don’t watch tv. We don’t even have cable, waste of money. There are many other family things you could be doing 🙂

  4. I hear ya, Angel. I rarely watch tv at my place and would prefer to do family things with the man and kiddies, but the tv is on way too much there. He gets tired and lazy from working shifts. HOWEVER, I am always up for games and being outside. I even taught the Abster to play “Go Fish”! 🙂
